We aim to develop technological skills that are age-appropriate and challenging, starting with using blocks of code in year 1, up to writing some of their own code in year 6. In EYFS, they start their coding experiences by programming Beebots to take simple journeys. We build on children’s skill and knowledge year-on-year so our pupils will be efficient coding and in computational thinking, which is one of the key skills looked for once children leave school.
We aim to develop skills that are age-appropriate and challenging. We wish to enable our children to exchange, organise, manipulate and present information across the wider curriculum effectively.
We believe that word processing is a brilliant tool for enhancing the curriculum and allowing wider opportunities for collaboration and exploration. We aim to both equip the children with the necessary digital literacy skills and to add wonder across the curriculum where possible.
Our computing curriculum aims to develop children’s life long learning skills, ensuring they build awareness, understanding and knowledge as they become citizens of the future.
The document below shows a planned teaching sequence that a unit of Computing lessons may follow in order to promote the sequential and progressive development of knowledge which can be securely demonstrated by our pupils.
The document below identifies the key elements which we believe are important to incorporate into our Computing lessons in order for them to build on previously taught knowledge and also to deepen and secure key concepts. The key elements which we believe are important to incorporate into our Computing lessons are highlighted in this pathway in order to: recall, deepen and build on previous learning to secure key concepts.
To ensure children are taught and remember the appropriate knowledge and skills relating to computing, we have created a whole school progressive breakdown of the National Curriculum expectations, this draws on the skills and knowledge being taught across all subject areas and hopes to contribute to the development of key concepts and themes in a deep and connected way.
Our Computing curriculum will ensure all children are not only taught subject specific vocabulary but also provide opportunities for them to use such language within the correct context with confidence and fluency.
